Russia, NATO agree to facilitate Syria chemical disarmament

Russia and NATO have agreed to fund and provide technical assistance to the operation by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to bring about the chemical disarmament of Syria.  Emerging from an Ambassador-level session of the NATO-Russia Council in Brussels Friday, Russian Ambassador Alexander Grushko said ‘the sides have agreed to pull off the task in strict keeping with Resolution 2118 of the UN Security Council and the subsequent resolution of the OPCW.’ They had also agreed that the Syrian crisis can only be settled politically, through an all-embracing second Geneva conference on Syria, which should bring the Syrian government together with all rebel groups. Grushko also said that the Russian side ‘has reminded NATO that it is vitally important to adhere to the UN ruling to deny support in whatever form to non-governmental Syrian groups that go for acquiring weapons of mass destruction. He warned that support of this kind would blow in the sails of Jihadist groups including Al Qaeda that pursue Islamic rule in Syria and the rest of the Middle East.

Demonstrations to call for a revocation of parliamentary pension plans and reduction in parliamentary salaries

On October 5, 2013, Iraqis went out, by the masses, in several provinces and cities, including Thi Qar, Al-Nasiriyya, Najaf, Karbala, Al-Diwaniya, Babil, Hilla, and of course Baghdad.

These civilians, who included women, children and individuals with special needs, demonstrated to call for a revocation of parliamentary pension plans and a massive reduction in parliamentary salaries. 

This is with the intention of calling for the directing of public monies to where they belong: the people. 

Peaceful protestors in Baghdad were attacked and beaten by SWAT forces, and had their recording and mobile devices confiscated. 

As the campaign indicates, August 31st was only the beginning. The next mass demonstrations will be on October 26th.

Iraqi Turkmen Front Turkey Representative Dr. Hicran Kazancı who is in Kirkuk met with the Governor of Kirkuk Necmettin Ömer Kerimi to discuss recent developments. Iraqi Turkmen Front Turkey Representative Dr. Hicran Kazancı who visited Governor Necmettin Ömer Kerimi discussed the recent political developments in Iraq in general and particularly those in Kirkuk. Dr.Kazancı expressed his appreciation regarding the activities of the Kirkuk administration in terms of reconstruction and development and indicated that they were in favor of strengthening the existing bonds of brotherhood between nations in Kirkuk.



The Kirkuk governor in turn thanked Iraqi Turkmen Front Turkey Representative Dr. Hicran Kazancı who voiced the proceedings in Kirkuk for his visit. Ideas regarding the recent events were exchanged at the meeting.
