Rebiya Kadeer was born on 15th November 1947, she is married and has eleven children, she is:

President of the World Uyghur Congress, Munich, Germany

President of the Uyghur American Association, Washington DC, USA

She has been nominated twice, in 2006 and 2007, for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her advocacy efforts on behalf of the Uyghur people

She was awarded the prestigious Rafto Award while in prison, on September 23rd 2004, by the Norwegion human rights group the Rafto Foundation.

She was awarded the Human Rights Watch 'Human Rights Award' in 2000.
