Nawshirwan Mustafa: Barzani trying to establish Kurdish state

18.03.2014 – Hemin Salih – BasNews, Erbil - The General Coordinator of the Change Movement (Gorran) has told his party’s officials that Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani is making efforts to announce an independent Kurdish state. According to information obtained by BasNews, Mustafa, a longtime rival of Barzani, told Gorran officials that Barzani is trying to declare a Kurdish state and that he will announce it in the next two years. The conversation happened in a private meeting last week.



One of the participants of the meeting told BasNews, on condition of anonymity, that an independent Kurdish state had been one of the meeting’s topics. “Mustafa told us that in the next two years Barzani will declare a Kurdish state and he is already making preparations for it,” the source said. In 2012, Gorran officially expressed its support for an independent state, but on the condition a Kurdish state have the elements of a state already in place, rather than function as a semi-state.
